hello,
just a question i have here regarding the perisher card holiday offer. I’ve taken a sentence off the website to help.
All guests who purchase an Adult or Child 3+ day Lift Ticket valid between Saturday 10 July and Friday 16 July (inclusive) can receive
a FREE Perisher Card.
Does the above mean:
1. That the ticket can be 3 consec. or more than 3 consec.
2. That all the days of the ticket must be valid inside this timeframe? If I were to buy a 3 consec. for the friday mentioned to be valid until
sunday, could i still get a perisher card?
Hi Peter,
I’ve noticed that there are strong to gale forced winds forecast for tomorrow (14/07/10), yet the report on the perisher website still predicts there to be 24 lifts in operation. Surely this can’t be the case, shouldn’t you inform people that mount p and blue cow chairs will be closed?
We will assess the winds in the morning and then inform everyone as soon as we make a decision on what can safely run… the weather forecast is not always right so lets not dismiss tomorrow just yet
Still not 24 though. Weather is hard to predict but I just thought there should have been some indication that all lifts may not be open e.g.(some lifts may be on wind hold tomorrow). Then people can be pleasantly surprised when blue cow is open, rather than dissapointed that mount p is not.
Hi Peter!
First of all; fantastic snowmaking effort!!! Thanks to that we have been able to get some nice skiing/boarding in, despite the lack of natural snow.
Now, the rumour is that half of the snowmakers (as every year) have had their notice this week - are you sure that’s appropriate in a season like this??? We’ll keep on doing our snowdance every night though!
I have a question about the condition of the T bar runs at perisher, You happily charge people $105/day for lift passes but do not groom the T bar runs, today they were in really poor condition, so this limits the amount of inexperienced people being able to use certain parts of the mountain, not really fair.
I noticed that there were people shovelling snow onto the runs at Guthega, maybe close the runs at some of the other resorts to put your resources at the more popular places to shovel snow there!
Just back from a great day skiing mainly Happy Valley plus from mid-station down. BUT: we had heard that Perisher had had 1 metre of snowfall in 7 days, and that all areas of the resort were interlinked. So, in the morning we dropped down into Pretty Valley (bugger all snow, no evidence of 1 metre), then the trail to Interceptor (a disgrace!), then from top of Interceptor down to Pleasant Valley (no evidence of snowfalls, and downright dangerous), finally found some snow (man-made and quite OK) on Early Starter and Zali’s). We love coming to Perisher but you do yourselves no favours by false claims of snowfalls and then attempting to have the whole resort open when it is not ready for it. Exactly where was the massive snowfall measured? Up against the wall of a building, I’d guess. Lift your game or lose us. We’d prefer that you don’t inflate your snowfall figures in future.
Forgot to add that we eventually took the train down and returned to Happy Vally and thoroughly enjoyed the area under snowmaking. A job well done there, at least, and thank you for that.
We have two sites that we measure snowfall from and we never claimed a 1 metre fall. We said that the total fall from the Storm was about 6ocm. Interestingly Snowy Hydro reported a snowdepth at spencers creek of 83cm yesterday, an increase of 47cm since last week. So, given that the snmowpack would have settled a bit since Monday, our 60cm seems to be verfified by Hydro, given no two sites are exactly the same.
Fair enough, Peter. But perhaps Perisher could consider including in your snow reports some sort of guidance for green skiers, such as “All four resorts are linked however cover is thin on access trails [name them if possible] and should only be used by [intermediate and above, etc]. Pretty Valley and Pleasant Valley also have limited cover [or whatever is appropriate]”
I suppose what lower standard skiers are looking for is sufficient information to allow them to plan their day without wasting time on areas which are simply unsuitable for them. We lost close to an hour and a half out of a five hour skiing day trying to pick our way through thin cover and trails with quite large holes or bumps, rocks etc. Armed with good information, we would have avoided those areas but when the board shows eg Pretty Valley lift is open it is fair to assume it and the access trail is skiable.
All that said, we really appreciate the efforts you’ve made with your snowmaking, particularly Happy Valley. If you can also improve or expand the quality and detail of your reports, that would be great.
Peter
I normally don’t like to complain, but, we all take the good with the bad, so as a regular season pass holder I have accepted that June and July were a right off (got in 8 hours skiing over 4 individual days) but for you to now drop the season pass price to half price is not showing any loyality for your regulars (loyality should go both ways) who may only be able to ski the first half of the season and who take pot luck on that. To add insult to injury you removed the discount available to season pass holders.
peter, don’t know where else to ask this question.
is mountain crew able to keep obviously incapable skiers/riders from accessing the chair lift (V8)?
what happened: while waiting in line for the V 8 on a particularly busy day (yep, sunny sunday!) I watched a lady standing in line with her ski’s in her hand. She was told to put them on, but said: i don’t know how (!); sure enough the mountain crew member was helpful put the ski’s on the ground, opened the binding and helped her to get her boots into the binding ….
she then got onto the chair and sure enough, when I arrived on the top a couple of chairs later, she and other members of her group were lying scattered everywhere, with other skiers and riders trying to avoid them, but also falling and hurting themselves… I did not wait to see how they would get down, but thought it better to get out of their way!
all this and possible injuries could have been avoided if there had been an option to refuse this lady (and her friends) on the lift…
is that at all possible? how do you think about these punters that think that skiing/boarding can’t be that hard and just hop on the chair, only to find themselves on top of the mountain and endangering themselves and others on their way down?
With all this snow, any chance of opening up the access trail from top of Smiggins (Hume T) down to Ridge Chair? This would make accessing blue cow so much easier and i believe it’s proposed on one of the papers for your future vision of the resort.
Sorry to hear that you didn’t get as much value as you would have liked in the first part of the season… We’ve offered a pass around this time at a similar price for many years…. this year we brought it forward a little.
Hopefully you are getting up here lots now to enjoy the snow.

When do you think smiggs and perisher, perisher and blue cow will interlink?
Also, can you set up a place where we can just post questions to perisher, rather than under a specific heading like ‘Curve’ here….
well done on the snowmaking this year, must have been a very challenging first half of the season for you guys.

i think its on everyones minds but …. finalllyyy more snow!!!!!!! haha.
Praise the Lord.
PS: great job with the snowmaking.
