The Perisher Academy is a seven day program designed to prepare individuals with no teaching experience towards the Australian Professional Snowsports Instructors (APSI) Level 1 Instructor exam.
We work closely with the APSI and all our Trainers are APSI certified and current APSI Trainers and Examiners.
Whether you are interested in a job or just after a qualification, if you have ever wondered what being a Snowsports Instructor is all about or you would like to take your skiing or riding to instructor level, this is the course for you.
The Perisher Academy is a APSI Level 1 Instructor prep-course and includes:

Upon successful completion of the course you have the opportunity to work with the Perisher Snowsports School and be able to continue your professional development if you wish.

As a skier, you should be of a high intermediate level and be able to confidently parallel on groomed intermediate (blue) terrain.
As a snowboarder, you should be able to turn in both directions (toe and heel side) and control speed on groomed intermediate (blue) terrain and demonstrate confidence while riding with one foot out of the binding.
You will need to be an encouraging, empathetic and outgoing personality, love the outdoors and like to work with people.
You will need to organise your own accommodation during the course, you can either opt to stay on the mountain or in near-by Jindabyne.

To become a qualified Snowsports Instructor in Australia, you will need to have trained and be certified by the Australian Professional Snowsports Instructors Inc. (APSI). There are four levels of certification in the Australian system with the Level 1 the first step towards a Snowsports Instructor career.

As a successful candidate you will be offered the opportunity to work with the Perisher Snowsports School either this season or the next. For overseas candidates, you will need proof a valid work visa to be employed.
During your employment with the Perisher Snowsports School you can continue your professional development towards the APSI Level 2 and sit the exam either at the end of the 2013 season or during the 2014 season.

Equipment
You will need to provide your own ski or snowboard equipment. If your prefer to hire equipment during the Perisher Instructor Academy course, you will be able to do so. Perisher Snowsports Hire has the latest ski and board gear and special discounts will apply to Perisher's Instructor Academy participants for the duration of the course.
Alternatively, if you need to stock up on new equipment, Perisher's on-mountain Slopestyle Mountain Sports outlet will be able to cover all your needs.
Storage
Usually your accommodation will offer storage facilities, however, if you prefer to leave your equipment on the mountain, we will be able to provide ski and boot lockers at a discounted rate.
