Perisher Blue Employee Receives Major Award

27 May 2008

Perisher Blue employee Peter Taylor has taken out a prestigious award at the Canberra Institute of Technology Trade Skills Awards night at the Hellenic Club in Canberra on 23 May 2008.

Peter’s award, Outstanding Achievement in Stage 3 of his Certificate III in Engineering, is a credit to both Peter and Perisher Blue’s apprenticeship program. Peter who has recently been appointed Front Valley Supervisor at Perisher Blue began his Engineering apprenticeship with the company back in 2005.

According to Human Resources Manager Gavin Girling, "Peter's achievement is indicative of the high standards that Perisher Blue’s apprentices have been reaching. His results are a credit not just to himself but also the existing trades staff that have assisted in his development. Congratulations are due to Peter on his award and to those staff who contributed to this through their mentoring of Peter during his apprenticeship."

Perisher Blue is highly committed to the training and development of apprentices. Many apprentices have gone on into management roles, both at Perisher Blue and other organisations. Apprentices have been achieving a high standard of results and awards in training and development across a number of disciplines including: mechanical, electrical and fitting fields.

The apprenticeship program first began with the companies’ inception back in 1995, since then Perisher Blue has employed over 30 apprentices. In 2008 Perisher Blue took on an additional three apprentices in addition to its existing four.

Apprenticeship appointments are a key component of Perisher Blue’s strategy to retain and develop the skills of high quality staff. Company apprentices have an amazing opportunity to work in a unique environment, using state of the art equipment while being supported in their studies, both on and off the job, by world-class trades staff.

Perisher Blue generally offers apprenticeships, based on demand for certain skilled staff, to seasonal workers who show genuine energy and enthusiasm in pursuing a full-time career in the industry. Apprenticeships are offered in the mechanical, electrical and fitting fields. Perisher Blue offers attractive apprenticeship packages including above-award payment and on-the-job training in an exciting alpine resort environment.
