6 Good Reasons to Get out of the City and Head to the Snow!

14 July 2008

If you're sick of the smog, tired of the hustle and bustle or feeling overworked, now is the perfect time to get out of the city and head to the snow!  Don't miss your chance to breathe in the crisp, fresh mountain air and enjoy all that the Australian alpine areas have to offer. Whether you want to play hard or just chill-out, there is plenty to do both on and off the slopes this winter.

Here are six good reasons why you should enjoy a snow-change, but there are plenty more...so why not book your holiday and discover what a winter retreat can do for you!

1. The Pope is visiting! If you are not taking in the activities and festivities associated with the Pope visiting Sydney, then it could be the perfect chance to get out of town. Transport could become a nightmare for a start, what a good excuse to leave town and hit the snow!

2. It's the city; it's busy, noisy, congested and polluted! Why not head to the Snowy Mountains and take in some fresh air, marvel at the snow-capped scenery and enjoy the endless starry skies (you can actually see more stars in the Snowy Mountains)? Even simply walking through the snow can be an invigorating activity. Nothing beats the adventure and vistas you can experience in this unique alpine environment.

3. It's cold wet and miserable in Sydney during winter! Take a break from the bleak, chilly city with its icy beaches and head to where the snow is your friend! Make the most of winter and come to the mountains where there are plenty of outdoor activities you can enjoy, from skiing and snowboarding to building a snowman, to snow-tubing or just snow-play (to name a few). Don't forget the apres options too; you can catch a band, hit the bars, share in a cosy coffee, consume a sumptuous meal, or even just curl up in front of the fireplace with a good book!

4. Good odds! At the snow it's an almost equal ratio of females to males so, if you are on the look out, you have every chance of finding a special snow companion. Perisher Blue's 2007 Demographic Survey identified that almost half of Perisher Blue's guests are without partners and looking. The growing appeal of ski resorts, as a place for singles to mingle is not entirely surprising given that there is so much to see and do, not to mention the healthy nightlife! So strap on the dancing shoes, have a drink and you might even meet 'the one'!

5. It's different. This special environment contains the infrastructure for specific outdoor activities that are not possible anywhere else in NSW, including not only downhill skiing and snowboarding but also snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, telemarking and alpine touring.

The magnificent Snowy Mountains are one of Australia's natural marvels. Boasting everything from crystal lakes to the highest peak in Australia, Mt. Kosciuszko, which stands at 2228 metres high. The Snowy Mountains are beautiful, pristine, serene and not to be missed.

6. And finally, there's snow! Snow provides a special experience for everyone. Whether you are an adrenalin junkie, halfpipe guru, active senior, adventure seeker, sightseer, café cruiser, pub-crawler, or you're simply looking for the perfect winter getaway, the snow has something for you. Get out of the city, and get amongst it!
