Today at Perisher

A wild start to July

It's not the start to July we would have hoped for, but the good news is there's a change on the way. Today is going to be a wet one, with wind and real mountain weather here in the resort - a great day for board games by the fire.

It's currently 2.9°C and we're headed for a top of 5°C. The wind is blowing from the north-west and is expected to increase throughout the day, with the potential for damaging winds as we head into the afternoon and evening.

The snow will be soft underfoot, and the Front Valley conveyor, plus Mitchell T-Bar and Sturt T-Bar to Tower 1, are expected to run today, alongside Front Valley conveyer, plus Harry and Herman's conveyor in Smiggin Holes.

I'd expect the strong winds to impact operations on the Quad Express scenic rides again today, keep an eye on the lift status report for the latest updates.

The good news is, this wild weather will bring a change with it; the forecast is calling for snow from Thursday night, with some forecasts suggesting up to 20cm or more. Following the snow, we should see around a week of optimal snow-making conditions, so the Mountain Ops team will be using all the firepower we have to get more terrain open as soon as possible.

*Natural snow depth is supplemented with snowmaking in certain areas. Natural snow depth is measured at roughly 1,830m by Snowy Hydro Limited who have invested in new instrumentation across the Snowy Scheme and can now provide more frequent snow depth readings at a site close to the Spencers Creek snow course. This near real-time snow depth information is available HERE.
