Memorandum
From: Gavin Girling – Human Resources Director (Australia)
Date: 23 April 2020
Subject: JobKeeper Program
You have received an email today from Pete Brulisauer indicating that you would receive information from me on the JobKeeper program. At this juncture we believe you are not eligible under the program and you do not need to take any action. Importantly, although we believe that you do not meet the JobKeeper criteria below, this does not change your current employment status. Below is additional information on the program and the criteria.
------------------------------------------
On 6 April the Australian Government passed the Coronavirus JobKeeper support package worth $130 billion to assist in the retention of an estimated 6 million employees through employers that have been significantly impacted by the pandemic.
Part of the package provides a subsidy to those employers and employees that satisfy the eligibility criteria to receive payments of $1,500 per fortnight to either cover the wages of employees stood down or to subsidise the wages of employees so that they remain employed. The first JobKeeper payments apply from 30 March, and for which applications must be lodged before the end of April.
Over the past few weeks we have been working to determine the eligibility of each resort and its employees. The outcome of this process is that we believe you are not eligible under the program as you do not satisfy one or more of the criteria below. We have requested that employees that we believe do qualify for JobKeeper complete an Employee Nomination Form and wanted to communicate to you the reasons we have not asked you to do the same.
To be eligible one must be:
- employed by the resort (including those stood-down or re-hired)
- at least 16 years of age on 1 March 2020
- an Australian resident as at 1 March 2020 within the meaning of the Social Security Act 1991, which requires that you reside in Australia, and are either an Australian citizen, the holder of a permanent visa, or a Protected Special Category Visa Holder.
- not in receipt of any of these payments during the JobKeeper fortnight
- government parental leave or Dad and partner pay
- a payment in accordance with worker compensation law for a total incapacity for work
and, either
- a permanent full-time or part-time employee at 1 March 2020 or
- a long-term casual employee (employed on a regular and systematic basis for at least 12 months) as at 1 March 2020 and not a permanent employee of any other employer.
If you have any questions on the above, please do not hesitate to contact your local HR team.
