Child Safety

Perisher is committed to the safety and wellbeing of all participants. The purpose of this statement is to state our strong commitment to the safety and wellbeing of children and young people who participate in Perisher's School Group programs. This is the primary focus of our care and decision-making in providing snowsports programs to them.

Perisher has zero tolerance for any kind of abusive behaviour.

Perisher is committed to providing a safe environment where children and young people are safe and feel safe, and their voices are heard about decisions that affect them and their participation in Perisher's School Group programs.  Attention will also be paid to respecting the cultural needs and wellbeing of children from culturally and/or linguistically diverse backgrounds and those children with a disability.

Every person involved in Perisher's School Group programs has a responsibility to understand the important and specific role he/she plays individually and collectively to ensure that the wellbeing and safety of all children and young people is at the forefront of all they do and every decision they make.

In its planning, decision-making and operations the Perisher's School Group programs will:

  1. Take a preventative, proactive and consultative approach to child and young person safety, including the establishment of easy and confidential (to the extent that is possible), reporting processes;
  2. Value and empower children to participate in decisions which affect their lives;
  3. Foster a culture of openness that supports people disclosing any perceived or actual risks of harm to children including by making the procedures for reporting any issues, threats or concerns widely known and generally supporting people through the process;
  4. Respect culturally diverse practices and approaches to raising children while keeping child safety paramount;
  5. Provide written guidance to all Perisher School Group employees on appropriate conduct and behaviour towards children;
  6. Engage only the most suitable people to work with children, ensure high quality staff and volunteer supervision and provide professional development opportunities;
  7. Encourage parents to tell children who to talk with if they are worried or are feeling unsafe;
  8. Put processes in place to provide additional support to children raising concerns directed at making them feel comfortable and encouraged to raise such issues;
  9. Report suspected abuse, neglect or mistreatment promptly to the appropriate authorities;
  10. Share information appropriately and lawfully with other organisations where the safety and wellbeing of children is at risk; and
  11. Value the input of and communicate regularly with families and carers.

Should you experience, or become aware of, behaviour or conduct that makes you, your children or those around you feel uncomfortable or unsafe, please feel confident in raising your concerns.  Perisher will take your concerns seriously, treat you with respect, keep the matter confidential (to the extent that is possible), investigate (where necessary or appropriate) and take appropriate action.

Risk Assessment

We understand that you'll need to complete a Risk Assessment for your School Group, something that we can help you with.

Perisher's 400 strong team of qualified Snowsports School staff all have verified competency from the independent, Nationally Recognised Training – SIS10 Sport, Fitness and Recreation program. All instructors must undergo a Working with Children Check as a prerequisite condition of their employment.

Perisher can help you keep track of your group while they are on the slopes with our sophisticated ticket system – we recommend you record the ticket number for each student so our Guest Services team can help you identify the last lift a student has ridden. Keeping track of the ticket numbers also allows us to easily replace lost tickets.
