Member for Monaro Officially Opens Perisher’s New $4 Million Freedom Chairlift

The 2014 winter season in Perisher has been one to remember with some of the biggest snowfalls in decades providing amazing skiing and boarding conditions across the 4 resort areas of Perisher Valley, Smiggin Holes, Blue Cow and Guthega. The highlight to the year has been the opening of the NEW $4 Million Quad Chairlift in Mid-July. The skiing and boarding terrain that the new lift has unlocked has been hugely popular making Guthega one of the most visited areas of the resort.
Today saw Perisher staff joined by Perisher’s Board of Directors, the Doppelmayr construction team, other special guests and NSW Member for Monaro John Barilaro gather to celebrate the Official Opening of the Freedom Chairlift earlier this winter.
Perisher CEO Peter Brulisauer said: “The opening of the Freedom Chair has been a highlight for all Perisher guests and staff. It’s great to see this lift up and running and being so popular after many years of planning. I’ve personally had some of the best days skiing in many years this season in Guthega on terrain that the new lift has unlocked.”
NSW Parliament member for Monaro John Barilaro said “Perisher should be congratulated on their continued investment that is a driving great visitation outcomes for the entire region. A thriving snowsports industry is key to the overall tourism industry and vital to the NSW economy; its worth $27.9 billion (year end march 2014), directly employs 158,000 people. It’s fantastic to see Perisher working hard to improve the guest experience and deliver new products. I’ve visited the new Freedom Quad Chairlift today and was amazed at the fantastic terrain it opens up for skiers and snowboarders as well as the breathtaking views of the Main Range including Australia’s highest peak Mount Kosciuszko” Perisher’s new Freedom Quad Chairlift increases Guthega’s lifting capacity by 46% making it quicker and easier to get around and explore amazing terrain like Karl’s, Schnaxl and Bloody Mary, while enjoying incredible views of the Main Range, and of course the pinnacle, Mt Kosciuszko. With the capacity to carry 2,400 people per hour, the new Freedom Chair lifts you 200 metres from 1713m to 1913m.
With these fantastic snow conditions Perisher has extended the ski season through till October 10, so now is the time to plan a visit to Perisher this snow season.
